Fifth Grade Warm/Cool watercolor Landscapes

Materials: pencil and eraser, watercolor Paper, Crayola Watercolor Pencils (24 pack), water cups, small watercolor brushes.

This is a simple but really beautiful project.
With a pencil we draw the wavy horizon line and then the sun in the sky. Then add the rings around the sun and the waves in the water. * I limit it to 5, to keep this project under an hour long.

We review warm and cool colors and then begin coloring in all of the sections of the sky with warm colors and all sections in the water cool colors. Once it is all filled in we use small amounts of water to paint in each section, rinsing the brush after every color.

I have varied this lesson for different grades. You can add in neutrals for mountains or do a cool sky with warm plains.
