BURGER Sculptures ART LESSON

BURGER SCULPTURES

This is easily one of the favorites of the school year. Students grade 4-8, love making these Burger Sculptures. This sculpture project can be done in SCULPEY POLYMER CLAY or CRAYOLA MODEL MAGIC. This is a 2 part project.

SCULPEY POLYMER CLAY is what I use for the middle schoolers. This a special end of the year project for them, so we use Sculpey. I use white Sculpey so it can be painted. The Sculpey does need to be baked in an oven to harden.

CRAYOLA MODEL MAGIC is easy to use and can be used for these Burger Sculptures. Going class to class and not having an art room or a kiln makes clay projects a challenge. I love using model magic for sculpting and it’s much cleaner than clay and doesn’t break when being transferred around.

Materials

SCULPEY POLYMER CLAY or CRAYOLA MODEL MAGIC , 3in. cardboard or chip board squares, glue, acrylic paint, paint brushes, water cups, paper towels, toothpicks

This is a 2 part project. 1 class sculpting and the next class to glue it to the cardboard and to paint the burgers.

Burger Sculpture Directions

Make a plate first , then sculpt a short cylinder for the bottom bun, attach to the plate & then make a dome shape for the top bun, but do not attach it yet. Make the burger patty, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes, carefully layer each on the bottom bun, then add the top bun on top. Make tiny sesame seeds to add to the bun.

SCULPEY POLYMER CLAY needs to be baked. CRAYOLA MODEL MAGIC dries over night. Both can be painted with acrylic paint.
