RAINBOW PENGUIN PAINTINGS

RAINBOW PENGUIN PAINTINGS are a great art lesson for any time of the year, and a fun winter art lesson. These penguins can be taught in a classroom, at home, or for remote learning. This is done in watercolors, but any art medium can be used to add in color: paints, color pencil, crayon, pastel.

This is a great activity for grade levels 2-6. An excellent resource for homeschoolers, teachers, and parents. I have done this in class, and have this RAINBOW PENGUIN PAINTING ART LESSON remotely.

YOU’LL NEED watercolor paints, brush, paper

YOU’LL NEED:

  • PENCIL & ERASER
  • PAINTING PAPER
  • WATERCOLOR PAINTS
  • LARGE & SMALL BRUSH
  • PAPER TOWEL & WATER CUP

Use simple shapes and start the drawing with a tall oval body shape and a circle head. Connect the head to the back. Once you have those large simple shapes, add in wings and legs for the penguin. Then add on smaller shapes, such as the beak, eye, and feet. Create a rock for it to stand on, and then you can start painting the background.

This rainbow sky, is just a suggested technique, students can create any type of background for their penguin.

EXPERT TIP: start with yellow for this lesson and transition into warm colors (in order), orange, red, magenta, violet on one side of the penguin and cool colors, purple to blues on the other side of the penguin. Use plenty of watercolor on the brush, so the colors are able to blend together where they touch.

Start on one side of the sky. Paint in with yellow and transition to orange, red, magenta, and violet. Start the other side of the sky, with purple, and transition to blues.
